The winds and waves picked up substantially by about 9am and we started slipping backwards towards the rocks behind the boat, so we had to pull up the anchor and find another place to anchor. In high winds and waves we tried several times to get the anchor to hold where it wasn’t too close Read More

February 9, There’s dinosaurs at Allen Cay!
Took a brief dinghy ride to Leaf Cay (We’re anchored only about 75 feet from the shore of Leaf Cay) and were met on the beach by at least a dozen iguanas. They’re the largest indigenous animal in the Bahamas. They came up pretty close to you hoping for some munchies, but were wary and Read More
February 8, Sailed to Allen Cay
Today we sailed to Allen Cay, pretty brisk wind and waves, we got up to 8.2 knots. While were were underway, we saw the kayak moving around on the mount, eventually started just hanging from the straps. We hove-to and discovered that the kayak mounting brackets had bent so far that they were completely straight… Read More
February 7, Day two hiding in Royal Island Harbor, heading south tomorrow
Today we slept in, reconfigured jerry jugs for fuel so they’re more secure, Cathy did a load of laundry using R2D2, fixed a bimini pole mount that had broken during our icky passage on Thursday, I reconfigured the ports on our navigation electronics gateway to make it possible to connect more equipment (future projects) and Read More
February 6, Blustery day hiding out in Royal Island Harbor, watermaker installed!
It’s been a pleasant but windy day so we slept in and had a great pancake breakfast. After breakfast I finished up the watermaker installation. Today we’ve made 5.79 gallons of water! It’s amazing, it tastes JUST LIKE WATER! With winds gusting up to 30 mph, we drug anchor at one point and had to Read More
February 5, Miserable day at sea
As we left the choppy anchorage at Cross Harbor Bight the anchor got lodged under a rock and we had a tough time getting it free, the anchor got bent and we’ll be needing to replace it. We sailed south towards Eleuthera Island. Wind was right on our noses, and we had to motor all Read More
February 4, Long day sailing to Cross Harbor Bight
Started early sailing south. Choppy seas as we reached South Point, so we swung around and went to up Cross Harbor Bight to anchor for the night. It was nice when we anchored, but the wind came up at around midnight from the south and made the rest of the night pretty bouncy.
February 3, Leaving Marsh Harbor, heading for Lynyard Cay on our way south.
We got up fairly early today to prepare to head south. We went to the fuel dock and refilled the 3 jerry cans as well as the boat tank and got 2 wonderful surprises… Surprise number one, we only used 23.6 gallons of fuel since we left Sunset Bay in Stuart… That’s really amazing since Read More
February 2, More hose for the watermaker installation.
Went into town to get more hose for the watermaker installation, and went to the Island Bakery where we got some wonderful goodies. As we were heading back to the boat, the “Kryponite” lock we bought to lock up the dinghy would not unlock, so we spent about 30 minutes wrestling with the lock trying Read More
February 1, Finally got pizza
Today we walked a few miles to the other side of the island to the ferry dock and rode the ferry to Hope Town and went to a very nice Methodist Church service. Hope Town seems to be a really nice, small “everyone knows everyone” type of place. The only kerosene, manually operated lighthouse in Read More
