Pending Repairs/Upgrades

At this point, everything! I’ll put things under headings to keep it manageable. This list will grow LOTS as time goes on…

Items that need to be addressed soon

• Clean out lazarettes, remove unnecessary stuff. (Mostly done)
• Fix button for cabinet to side engine compartment access.
• Soak the mounting screws and get them moving freely on the outboard motor. (Done, now to get the motor to run!) Done! We’ve also obtained an electric motor for the dinghy that’s nice for short runs)
• Replace autopilot control on pedestal. Thanks to years of Amazon gift cards, we’ve got the new control, just need to install.
• Need to install 110v shore power inlet, currently slipping through cover to aft starboard compartment, but this is allowing water enter into compartment, not great.

The intermediate list – fairly soon

• Have leather patch sewn on bimini to cover the hold and keep boom from rubbing through again. Recently gained access to a heavy duty sewing machine so may be able to take care of this one myself. As well as other canvas-type projects. – DONE!
• Mount WIFI antenna. Will probably install on crossbar that will hold the new solar panels.
• Reinstall solar panels  Have all new solar panels, charge controller… Waiting to install panels until we move boat south, why age panels unnecessarily. 
• Reinstall BBQ grill Need to get replacement.
• Reinstall TV & Blu-ray player (tv done, ChromeCast installed)
• Fix or replace stereo, perhaps speakers
• Wax deck and hull (Work in progress, will probably hire this out)
• Fix broken shelf in port side lazarette. 
• Replace leather wrapping on steering wheel 
• Reinstall spinnaker pole hardware (Right now we’ve got the spinnaker on board, flying it as an Asymmetrical Spinnaker, without the pole)  We’ve got the pole mounted now, just have to do some testing.
• Fix latches for smaller hatches
• Devise system for securing ice-maker and portable refrigerator
• Fix left drawer in workbench Done

The longer term list – when time/$$ available

• Come up with a way to replace the refrigerator, it’s a power hog that doesn’t work well. Right now we’ll use our portable. Not sure whether to keep existing box and replace guts, or to just remove and install a whole new self contained unit. Leaning towards self contained, going to do some measurements to figure out what will fit.
• Refinish aft cabin door

Major Items, starting ASAP to be done by the boatyard…

• Haul-out of water, up onto the hard for hurricane season storage and major repairs. **+
• Drop rudder and replace rudder bearings, re-install rudder, adjust steering. **+
• Sand bottom of boat, prepare for painting. **+
• Paint bottom, 3 coats of anti-fouling paint. **+
• Replace standing rigging – This is the stuff that keeps the mast on the boat, needs to be replaced before we head out across oceans. *+

Items that need to be addressed as soon as we get there

• Replace house and starting batteries.
• Do inventory of all items on boat. Label & catalog all storage areas.
• Test windlass, repair/replace as necessary. (Fixed 12/13/2014, new controller & remote)
• Replace engine exhaust mixing elbow – On marine diesels, sea water is typically injected into the exhaust after the engine and then routed overboard. (replaced 12/28/2014)
• Replace zinc anode.
• Replace lifelines – these safety lines run around the outside of the boat, to keep things and people from falling overboard. *+
• Replace running rigging – this is all the equipment that is used for raising, lowering and controlling the sails. *+
• Replace fire extinguishers & flares.
• Replace propane stove flex hoses
• Replace hose clamps throughout vessel that are corroded/questionable.
• Replace missing hose clamps for aft head intake seacock.
• The seacocks should be thoroughly cleaned, lubricated and be proven to be in proper
  working order.
• Clean-up or replace elbows on all thru-hulls
• Service toilet in aft head, pumps poorly. (Fixed 12/14/2014, replaced pump assy)
• Attach a light and man-over-board pole to the lifering.
• Add lifesling, (installed, still need to test)
• Mount kayak.
• Post instructions on engine starting procedures, battery selection procedures.
• Put name on boat – (Anyone wanting to come up with a logo idea, feel free to e-mail us! Has to work mono or color, simple enough to read from a distance) (Done- Awsome – Thanks Melissa!)

Items that need to be addressed before we leave the country  for Texas

• Replace sails – clean up the old sails, replace missing batten in mainsail and store old sails as spares. *+
• Replace Sail Covers. *+
• Replace light bulbs in forward head aft overhead light and aft cabin starboard reading light, verify all other lights. (mostly using portable LED lights)
• The engine start battery should be tied down and be fitted with terminal covers.
• The engine should be thoroughly serviced. The oil, filters, coolant, hoses, belts, etc.
  should be replaced as necessary.
• Clean and lubricate all winches.
• Service compass and fit with a new globe.
• Have compass re-swung. **
• Have liferaft serviced. (Had to replace entirely, wasn’t salvageable.
• Add an additional anchor & rode. (Perhaps 2?)
• Clean minor corrosion on the steering pedestal and on the engine control pod and repaint.
• Replace broken aft starboard cockpit locker hatch catch.
• Several small plastic deck hatch hinge covers are missing (Lewmar). These should be
  replaced.
• Topsides should be compounded and waxed to restore a full gloss. **
• Minor chips and scratches (mainly on the stem and at the transom) should be ground out and be touched up with matching gelcoat. **?
• Purchase dinghy & motor.  Our “Ginna Anna” dinghy was just too far gone, she was great, but we had to get rid of her. Now we’ll need another dinghy before we set out for TX.
  Good news, Ginna Anna is still there, we’ll see how sea-worthy she is when we get there. Bad news, she’s a goner. John and Chris spent much time trying to revive her, but it was not meant to be. We gave her bones away to a nice man in Marathon Florida, where we purchased a new dinghy.
• Purchase & install SSB or HAM radio. Went with satellite instead, but got an SSB/shortwave receiver.
• Purchase & install long range wifi antenna. (purchased, using temp until final location picked)
• Have dodger made and installed. (bimini has now been replaced, too long to have dodger done, going without) **
• Purchase/install EPIRB. – Register MMSI for VHF & all PLB’s (done) and EPIRBS
• Purchase/install AIS, integrate with all systems. (done 12/28/2014, installed Standard Horizon Matrix GX2200 which has built-in GPS and AIS, running it through a DMK box to integrate GPS, AIS, NMEA, Seatalk)
• Install laptop with navigation software, integrate with all systems.
• Purchase/install radar, integrate with all systems. (Purchased, now have pole made, still need to install)
• Install solar panels & charging controller. (2 panels temporarily installed, need to figure out permanent mounting for all four panels, going to wait to see if I can use radar pole windgen pole as part of the infrastructure)
• Purchase/install wind generator. (installed, functioning)
• Purchase/install watermaker (started process, have watermaker, decided where to put it, working on it, current project)
• Purchase paper charts for Caribbean & east Florida coasts. (Have some)
• Purchase/install software charts for navigation software. (Purchased e-charts for Caribbean)
• Get spinnaker pole & spinnaker. **+
• Install ship’s bell. (donated by Kevin, thanks!) ** (May have to be installed in San Francisco!) (After extensive research, I’ve determined that Kevin is the only one who will be able to mount this device, waiting for scheduling info)
