February 6, Blustery day hiding out in Royal Island Harbor, watermaker installed!

It’s been a pleasant but windy day so we slept in and had a great pancake breakfast. After breakfast I finished up the watermaker installation. Today we’ve made 5.79 gallons of water! It’s amazing, it tastes JUST LIKE WATER!

With winds gusting up to 30 mph, we drug anchor at one point and had to pull it up and reset it to avoid nice rocks. The wind generator shuts down when the wind gets over about 20 mph (huh, wind generator that doesn’t like wind, imagine that!) and we had lots of clouds today so not much solar, subsequently we had to run the generator to keep the batteries topped up after our watermaking spree! Tomorrow’s supposed to be windy as well, but should be a little calmer so hopefully the wind generator will hold up. Thinking about sneaking out of our nice protected harbor on Sunday, but we’ll have to see what the weather looks like. Forecasts are for a really quiet day Monday, but I’ve found that the forecasts are often wrong by a day, that why we got blasted on Thursday’s passage. We’re going to try to make voyage plans that include “what-if” options to avoid more icky weather and “sea-flu”.
