February 23, Left Rum Cay for Calabash Bay

Heading out from Rum Cay with very little wind. Decided it would be a good day to try out our fancy new spinnaker!  Got everything set up and running on the first try! What a great looking sail, kept us going at about 5 knots in the light winds.

As we were sailing along, the block that held the spinnaker halyard broke free from the mast and we had to take down the spinnaker. (Sad face) Somewhat scary as the two times that I’ve got up the mast, I used the spinnaker halyard for my main climbing line. (still gives me the eebie-jeebies). Since there wasn’t enough wind to sail after we took down the spinnaker, we started up the motor. I used the opportunity while we were in deep water to get out my shiny new fishing pole and drop a line off the back of the boat.

After about 2 hours the reel started singing like crazy. I started reeling it in and spent about 20 minutes fighting whatever it was to get it onto the boat…

It turned out to be about a 30 inch Mahi Mahi!  He was our dinner  and we ate enough Mahi to feed probably four people…

We saw dolphins again too while motoring to Calabash Bay.

We anchored off the beach from the “Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort”, where we went ashore in the dinghy and walked around, checked our e-mail real quick and spend some time walking on the beach.
