Today we pretty much watched the world go by today…
It started out with me waking up to a new “noise”. Understand, living on the boat is all about “noises”. You hear a new noise, and you have to learn what it is, and whether or not it’s a “good” noise or a “bad” noise. This morning I woke to a new noise that sounded like a very light rain, almost like a pressure sprayer spraying, a “hissing sound”, I thought it might be rain, but when I looked up at the hatch above the bed there was no rain coming down… So I jump out of bed and head up the companionway, and I see nothing. No rain, no more sound, nothing. Later, as I was up on deck working on stuff, I heard the sound again, this time I look up see hundreds of sardine sized fish jumping out of the water, with bigger fish (1-3 feet) chasing them. They’re jumping out of the water to try and avoid being eaten. This happened about 4 times today, I tried several times to get a picture, but by the time I had the camera ready, it was over. Only lasts about 30-45 seconds, but it’s pretty cool seeing hundreds of fish surrounding the boat as they avoid the feeding fest.
It did rain some today, here’s a picture of the new bimini shedding water…
I also set up a temporary “deck-cam” so I can see what’s going on out in front of the boat when down below. Here’s a picture taken at night.
Just around sunset, just after I took a sunset picture…
… I saw some Tow-US boats coming into the harbor, towing what looked like a stick. As I watched (and took pictures, not much turned out, the best picture is below), I realized that it was the top of a powerboat. The rest was submerged. I watched and occasionally you could see other parts of the top of the vessel peeking above the water.
We’re hoping to head out for the Bahamas tomorrow night at around midnight, just waiting for the right weather and we’re on our way!
