We got up fairly early today to prepare to head south. We went to the fuel dock and refilled the 3 jerry cans as well as the boat tank and got 2 wonderful surprises… Surprise number one, we only used 23.6 gallons of fuel since we left Sunset Bay in Stuart… That’s really amazing since we motored all the way to West Palm Beach, as well as all the way to West End, and some other longer trips. We’re consuming much less fuel than I’d anticipated, hurray! Surprise number 2, diesel was only $4.88 per gallon, much cheaper than we’ve seen since we left the states.
After filling up, we headed out and sailed our way down to Lynyard Cay for the night. It was quite a zig-zag path to get here, but we made good time, up to seven knots at one point (that was with reefed sails) and 6.1 knots with only a reefed main. Here’s a picture taken when heading directly downwind, in a “wing and wing” configuration where the headsail and mainsail are on opposite sides of the mast.
Had a wonderful chicken and pasta dinner prepared by my beautiful wife and we’ll probably watch a movie before heading off to bed. Tomorrow we head for “Hole in the Wall”.
